FUNCTIONAL FASHIONS: On Saturday, September 6, 2003, Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge, MA will have an all-day event, "Functional Fashions," that will feature tours of exhibits and demonstrations on the life of early 19th century New Englanders. Stabb, member of Region V and current member of the National Board of Directors, has been playing "Dress Detective" for the California State Parks system. She will give a slide lecture entitled "Peeling Off The Layers" on one of those historic costume collections at the historic Fischer-Hanlon House in Benicia, California, the site of the first State Capitol of California, just east of San Francisco, on Saturday, October 4, 2003 at 2 pm. JEWELRY HISTORIANS: The American Society of Jewelry Historians will have two lectures this fall in New York City. The first will be on September 23, 2003 at 6 pm at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum. THE ART OF DRESS: Named after Jane Ashelford's book, "The Art of Dress" clothing exhibit just opened for a month's run and will be on display until September 30, 2003 at the Carnegie Art Center in Oregon City, Oregon. The exhibit examines dresses of the 1800's and how they changed from one decade to the next. What's more, it will examine what the woman did artistically with the dress to keep up with fashion. THE HEART OF SPAIN: A rare exhibition of Spain's religious art, antiquities and icons has just opened at the Alexandria Museum of Art in Alexandria, LA and will be shown until November 30, 2003. As part of the region's Bicentennial Celebration of the Louisiana Purchase, these paintings, tapestries, sculptures, and pieces of jewelry have been gathered for this one spectacular show.
