Topics for scholarly papers may be on any fashion and textile related subject, historical or contemporary, local or global. This includes many possibilities regarding the design, production and consumption of clothing and accessories: designers, manufacturers, retailers, photography, illustration, publishing, advertising, and the interface of fashion with popular culture--art, architecture, sports, music, film, television, entertainment, performance, and more. All research paradigms are welcome.
Abstracts: Abstracts must be no longer than two typewritten double-spaced pages, including endnotes. Only the title should appear at the top of the first page. Please include a separate cover page with name, address, telephone numbers, email address and professional affiliation.
Student submissions are welcome. Please identify student papers on the cover page.
The symposium includes scholarly papers and activities with potential to stimulate many research interests. These include tours of two major fashion enterprises and presentations of primary source materials by curators of several Special Collections at The Ohio State University:
- Lane Bryant Corporate Headquarters and Design Center
- Costume Specialists, the largest designer/ manufacturer of corporate mascots in America
- Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee Theatre Research Institute
- The Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum
- The Historic Costume & Textiles Collection

The symposium will take place at the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. The symposium hotel is the Hyatt Regency in the Short North/Arena district, a few miles from campus.
