Judi Dawainis

Treasurer, 2026-2028

The Treasurer is responsible for the financial functioning of the Society.


Judi Dawainis earned a BS/MS in Apparel Design from Southern Illinois University, completing her thesis on American men’s 19th-century patterns. She spent a decade in regional and university theatre costume shops specializing in men’s tailoring before moving into the garment industry as a patternmaker and design room manager. In 1995, she joined Levi Strauss & Co., patterning men’s and women’s jeans for Premium and Vintage lines using company archives. In her final three years at LS&Co Judi worked on the Global Women’s Initiative, using 60,000 body scans to establish new global body types, developing specific products for each type, conducting international fit-testing, and releasing improved patterns for global production. She retired in 2010.

 

Judi served on the Western Region Council from 2016–2025 as Newsletter Editor and Finance Chair. Other contributions include 2019 Silent Auction Chair, Regional and National Abstract Coordinator, Abstract Editor, and being honored with the 2025 President’s Award. She joined CSA in 1979.
